Let me guess…

You want to make gains.

You invest hours, weeks, months, years, heck maybe even decades bodybuilding.

But gains are slow to make.

You (hopefully) checked your diet, program, progress and past performance and all seems up to par.

Naturally, you consider your options and at this point, it’s always these two options:

Do you take juice (aka steroids)?

Or do you remain “natural”?

What if you could do both; juice and stay natural?

It might just be possible with this brassinosteroid, which is considered to be a “plant steroid”.

This harmless compound is called Laxogenin.

Laxogenin is a natural anabolic that is suppose to increase lean muscle mass without the negative side effects of similar but harsh alternatives.

But what is Laxogenin?

And is it another way for supplement companies to make a hole in your wallet?

Or is it true an anabolic agent that flips on that switch for quicker muscle growth?

Let’s find out…

What Is Laxogenin?

Laxogenin is a brassinosteroid, or plant hormone.

Brassinosteroids are similar to animal steroid hormones in structure.

Laxogenin, an anabolic agent, is a natural alternative to harsh prohormones and steroids that have a long, distressing list of side effects.

In fact, Laxogenin and a popular anabolic steroid, Anavar, share remarkably similar anabolic and androgenic ratings.

However, Anavar has a substantial list of adverse side effects, while Laxogenin does not.

Laxogenin has been considered the alternative for Anavar as well as other anabolic steroids and prohormones.

This natural anabolic has shown promise to:

  • Increase muscle mass
  • Decrease body fat
  • Slow protein breakdow
  • Increase protein synthesis
  • Inhibit cortisol levels

It is thought to work by increasing your body’s nitrogen retention as well as increasing protein synthesis, without having any effect on hormone levels.

Additionally, Laxogenin reduces the amount of cortisol (a stress hormone) found in the body, creating an ideal environment for decreasing body fat while building muscle, which is why something like Ashwagandha (KSM 66) is the perfect supplement to stack with.

How Is Laxogenin Sourced?

Laxogenin is naturally derived from Smilax Sieboldii, a plant in the evergreen family native to Japan and China, or from Allium chinense bulbs, which are Chinese onions.

The synthetic form of Laxogenin found in supplements is 5a-hydroxy Laxogenin, which is extracted from the plant steroid diosgenin, found in wild yams.

How Can I Take Laxogenin?

Laxogenin comes in both pill and powder forms, by itself or included in a premixed supplement.

This plant steroid stacks well with other natural anabolics like epicatechin, KSM 66, etc.

And it can be used with or without a training program.

Some stack Laxogenin with steroids.

But then again, steroids and steroids can be stacked with more steroids.

Whatever it takes to make gains right?

Is Laxogenin Synthetic?

Natural Laxogenin can be derived from Smilax Sieboldii, but supplements usually contain a synthetic form called 5a-hydroxy Laxogenin, also called laxosterone.

5a-hydroxy Laxogenin is extracted from the plant steroid diosgenin, traditionally obtained from wild yams.

5a-hydroxy Laxogenin and the natural form of Laxogenin are believed to have the same benefits.

The main issue is that most supplement companies do not test for purity and end up with laxogenin with very poor levels and some don’t even have any laxogenin at all!

The solution is a form like Laxosterone, which is said to be the best form as it has the highest purity levels (over 98%!).

Is Laxogenin A Steroid Or Prohormone?

Although it is anabolic and has shown promise to work similarly to traditional steroids, Laxogenin will not make you test positive for prohormones or steroids.

It can be argued that it is in fact a steroid but it doesn’t change hormone levels (testosterone, estrogen, dihydrotestosterone, or any hormones).

In fact, Laxogenin can be taken to reverse the adverse effects of prohormones and steroids, as a PCT or on-cycle support.

Worst case scenario; you’ll get questioned if you start making quick gains, which is unlikely because Laxogenin isn’t as strong as anavar or SARMs for that matter.

But this means the FDA could soon put their scope on Laxogenin and they can easily make the plant steroid suddenly hard to find, even though it is oddly enough found in mustard!

How Does Laxogenin Work?

There’s a lack of clinical trials showing the exact process of how this plant steroid works but what we do know is that Laxogenin has a similar anabolic (muscle building) ratio as synthetic steroids like Anavar.

But unlike Anavar, it doesn’t have the negative effects on your endocrine system (your hormone levels are not affected, during or after taking Laxogenin.

This means that you will get all of the lean muscle gains, without requiring post cycle or estrogen control.

And because Laxogenin doesn’t negatively impact your hormones, liver, or heart, you can continue to take it indefinitely.

Anabolically, plant steroids (such as Laxogenin) attach to the cell surface by receptor kinases, and are thought to trigger a signal that increases cell muscle growth.

Two derivatives of laxogenin were able to increase phosphodiesterase (cAMP) levels by stopping a particular enzyme.

Similar brassinosteroids have been shown to encourage protein synthesis and protect muscle cells by activating the Akt1 protein.

So even though your testosterone or hormone levels will not change with Laxogenin, it will increase protein synthesis to help speed up the muscle growth process.

What Makes Laxogenin Safe?

You may consider using Laxogenin as an alternative to steroids, or even stacking it with steroids or prohormones.

Regardless of your stack, here is what Laxogenin won’t do:

Increase (Or Suppress) Hormone Levels

Synthetic steroids are usually taken in relatively high doses to promote the growth of lean muscle.

Your body eventually stops producing as much testosterone to compensate.

This means that when you stop taking the synthetic steroids, your body will produce lower levels of testosterone, which is vital to building and maintaining lean muscle mass.

Liver And Kidney Damage

Most synthetic steroids can cause serious liver damage, especially with prolonged exposure.

This is because these compounds are difficult to breakdown and can increase the risk for non-cancerous tumors to grow in the liver.

However if you do have existing liver or kidney issues, you are better off not using Laxogenin. Get approval from your doctor before using any supplement.

Testing Positive For Drug Tests

Laxogenin will not cause you to test positive for phormones or steroids on a drug test.

Cycling And Taking Post Cycle Supplements

You do not need post cycle therapy after using Laxogenin, as it does not interfere with your hormone levels or your body’s natural production of testosterone.

What Are The Anabolic Effects?

Laxogenin is relatively new to the bodybuilding market, so much of the evidence we have is anecdotal, as clinical trials and studies are still being conducted.

Since it is a plant steroid, it has a remarkably similar anabolic and androgenic ratios to anabolic steroids, but will not show up on drug tests.

Check out the chemical structure here:

One animal study examining the anabolic effect of brassinosteroids proved potential of Laxogenin, as they significantly increased protein synthesis in rats, with increases in both lean and gastrocnemius muscle mass, with little to no androgenic effects.

Another study on anabolic effects of sapogenins such as diosgenin (from which Laxogenin is derived) showed similar effects, accelerating weight gain and protein synthesis in rats.

Other Potential Benefits

While research is limited, clinical studies on brassinosteroids such as Laxogenin have shown to have a number of possible benefits.

Cancer Protective Properties

Early research with brassinosteroids (such as Laxogenin) also show promise for their use as a potential treatment for and prevention against cancer.

A study on Laxogenin on stage-two lung cancer patients showed that Laxogenin promotes antitumor activity!

Lowers Blood Sugar

In animal studies, brassinosteroids lowered blood sugar and insulin resistance, and helped to reduce sugar production in the liver.

It also stopped two enzymes in cells from making sugars from fats and proteins.

Reduces Tissue Damage

Although animal and human studies are yet to be conducted, in at least one cell study, Laxogenin showed the ability to prevent tissue damage and possibly neutralize oxidative stress.

Lowers Cortisol

Laxogenin has been shown to possibly control stress and anxiety by inhibiting cortisol. Lowered cortisol levels also have a direct correlation to weight control and libido!

Dosages And Cycles

Because of the lack of clinical studies on Laxogenin, a standard daily dose has not been established.

Anecdotally, people are reporting the most benefits at a daily dose of 100-200mg, and often take 50-100mg twice a day to avoid headaches.

You should speak with your doctor and build up gradually to ensure that you don’t experience headaches.

Possible Side Effects From Laxogenin

One thing that attracts so many people to Laxogenin is its lack of side effects.

However, no supplement is entirely free of side effects, and Laxogenin is no exception.

Although reported side effects of Laxogenin are extremely rare, the only negative effect most people complain of is experiencing severe headaches (especially at high doses).

Some people have reported that by taking smaller doses of Laxogenin throughout the day, they were able to mitigate the headaches that sometimes occur when taking one large dose, once a day.

Laxogenin had an awful start because supplement companies released stuff that wasn't tested.

This generated a big wave of negative reviews and created a poor reputation of all hype and no gains.

The reviews we found on trustworthy and reputable supplement brands that do test purity levels and provide proof (like Olympus Labs), mostly agree on the following:

Laxogenin had an awful start because supplement companies released stuff that wasn't tested.

This generated a big wave of negative reviews and created a poor reputation of all hype and no gains.

The reviews we found on trustworthy and reputable supplement brands that do test purity levels and provide proof (like Olympus Labs), mostly agree on the following:

  • Increases strength: your best lift should increase by one more rep
  • 100mg per day seems to be an effective dose, but some take up to 200mg
  • Transdermal supplements seems to work better as it has better bioavailability
  • Enhances recovery from injuries

It seems that Laxogenin will increase size indirectly by increasing strength.

This makes it an ideal supplement for bodybuilders, injured athletes and steroid users who want to maintain strength after cycling.

And since it doesn’t affect hormone levels, it makes it a great natural anabolic for women to take as well.

Laxogenin has similar properties to Anavar but it is not banned by WADA and it won’t increase testosterone levels.

Those who are drug tested should have due diligence and check with their coach / doctor / drug testing governing body before taking Laxogenin.

Laxogenin’s Limited Success

When Laxogenin was first available around 2010, it had many issues from ingredient absorption to adulterated material that wasn’t even Laxogenin.

Supplement companies didn’t test for purity levels and supplier materials can never be trusted without testing.

One company that does test for purity is Olympus Labs, whose tests you can find here.

Another is Bestcom Biotech who has managed to get their form of Laxogenin (Laxosterone) to 98% purity levels!

Adultered And Untested Materials

Many supplements on the market are not tested for purity and sometimes don’t even have Laxogenin at all.

In one study published by the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Analysis, twelve Laxogenin supplements were analyzed, and five of the products did not contain any amount of Laxogenin.

Poor Absorption And Bioavailability

The other issue is absorption.

Just like the popular natural anabolic epicatechin, Laxogenin has promising effects on muscle building but they both have poor bioavailability when taken raw.

There’s a huge gap between the positive and negative reviews when it comes to these two anabolics.

Some report huge benefits while others have little to zero results.

The issue is the way the supplement is taken.

It should either be taken:

  • Transdermally (like hand cream that you can rub on skin).
  • Orally by encapsulate the compound in a lipid that doesn’t dissolve until it reaches the digestive tract.

The first method works well but there are encapsulated forms that are recently coming out that seem to work just as well.

Exercise due diligence and verify that you are sourcing your Laxogenin supplement from a reputable company like Olympus Labs.

So other than third party testing their own products for quality control, they are the most reliable source to buy SARMs

They also provide certificates with their products so you know the purity you're getting.

The pricing for Laxogenin at is fair at $29.99 for 750ml.

Since it's tested, and you'll get a certificate to see it's purity, you'll know what you're paying for.

This makes it well worth and easily our top recommendation for both SARMs, and laxogenin.

Top Laxogenin Supplements

There’s a growing number of Laxogenin products but not all of them actually contain Laxogenin.

Very few companies test out their raw materials.

And if they do have laxogenin, it’ll likely not be potent enough to have any benefits.

It’s a gamble, you’re rolling the dice when you’re buying one.

If you are getting laxogenin then you should make sure you’re getting a decent percentage of purity (90% or more).

Bestcom BioTech currently has the best form of Laxogenin, called Laxosterone.

This form contains over 98% purity levels.

The second best is Olympus Labs, who has at least 90% purity levels and usually delivers more than that.

Other brands may have anywhere between 20% to 72% purity levels and some may even have none!

We’ll start with the best laxogenin supplements then move down to the other options that we’re not completely sure of (they may either have laxogenin in prop blends, do not prove purity levels, etc).

If there's one plant-based anabolic that you need to try, it's Sapogenix.

It's an potent supplement for muscle and strength gains.

There's no risk for side effects as it only has natural steroidal saponins and you can cycle without a PCT.

You can also stack it with Ecdysterone from the same company.

It is an expensive choice but this company, Huge Nutrition, is the only one with the rights to this formula.

Meaning if you want to try this combination of ingredients of steroidal plant saponins, then you'll want to try Sapogenix, before it becomes another discontinued natural anabolic.

This is also the only natural anabolic that uses cyclosome delivery, which is only seen with prohormones like 1-Andro.

Users report at least 5-10lbs of lean gain mass during a 4-week cycle.

What other people experienced probably won't be the same for you but it is safe to experiment and report for yourself.

The problem with most laxogenin supplements is that they contain tiny doses.
But Repp Sports has a huge dose of it here at 100mg.

Laxogenin isn't the only ingredient in here.

To help with fat burning, L-Carnitine L-Tartrate is included at a full 1g dose.

With a fully disclosed label, there's nothing hidden and you know exactly what you're getting.

Black pepper extract is also here, it'll help with absorption of laxogenin here.

Outbreak has cool branding and a unique way of presenting their supplements.

But that's not the only thing they have going.

The formula's they put together are well thought out and fully dosed with full transparent labels.

Build is a strong muscle builder, with Mediator (phosphatidic acid), rosemary, Urolithin B and a hefty laxogenin dose of 50mg.

With phosphatidic acid, studies have shown it to increase mTOR, which boosts muscle growth, especially when combined with hard training.

Another mTOR trigger is Urolithin B, and it can also increase protein synthesis.

Rosemary is standardized to 50% ursolic acid and it's been shown to improve body composition.

With ursolic, it can increase strength, energy and decrease glucose levels while improving general physical fitness.

Laxogenin is also included to make Build a super anabolic muscle builder that has compounds that will drive up muscle growth by increasing muscle protein synthesis and increased lean mass.

When you're looking for a laxogenin supplement, you're usually looking to build mass.

Steel Alpha AF is an all in one testosterone booster and it's designed to help with mass building.

It has the basics of vitamin D3, zinc, magnesium and B6, which makes it a ZMA formula.

But that's not all it has.

It also has estrogen control with arimistane.

For libido and increased masculinity, byroviron is also included at a big 1g dose.

Byroviron has also been shown to increase growth hormones and total testosterone.

Safed musli is also here to further help with erectile strength and increased sperm production.

Laxogenin is a bit underdosed here but seeing how the other ingredients are at big doses and fully disclosed, it's a great testosterone booster overall.

You know if the brand is run by people who lift, then there’s a good chance that they create effective supplements.

Divided Labs has the strongest natural anabolic formula, Diverge Max.

It contains a ultra-effective combination of Epicatechin and the best form of Laxogenin, Laxosterone.

The CEO, Conner Cummings uses this himself and swears by it as it helped him recover and gain strength.

Epicatechin is a natural antioxidant that’ll help improve insulin sensitivity, lower cholesterol and blood pressure.

It’s shown to increase muscle growth and strength.

Diverge Max is one of the best natural anabolics we’ve seen.

If there’s one company that has years of experience with ultra-strong anabolics and supplements, it’s Olympus Labs.

From Ep1logue to Kings Blood and the focus enhancing pre workout, Suprem3, Olympus is here to power your workouts and performance.

Massacr3 has a mega-dose of Laxogenin, no other supplement comes close to this.

This plant steroid is encapsulated with PhytoFUSE lipid to help maximize bioavailability, allowing you fully absorb laxogenin.

The massive 600mg dose of laxogenin will take strength to the next level, nothing else comes close.

And it gets better.

To enhance blood flow, glucose uptake and muscle protein synthesis, there’s 300mg of Vaso6, the ultra strong nitric oxide booster.

Vaso6 is not only good for pumps but it also contains epicatechins to help increase recovery.

This means Laxogenin and the next ingredient, UroBolin will have better bioavailability due to the strong nitric oxide effects of Vaso6.

UroBolin is another anabolic compound that helps increase protein synthesis which directly enhances muscle growth and recovery.

Ep1logue is almost exactly the same but instead of Laxogenin, it uses Epicatechin.

Massacr3 makes for a perfect pre workout as it increases blood flow better than citrulline and directly helps with strength gains with it’s natural anabolics.

PCT V isn't a pure laxogenin supplement.

It's designed to be a PCT supplement, something you would take after a cycle.

But it does include laxogenin, and a few libidio enhancing ingredients.

Tribulus terrestris doesn't have any studies proving any effectiveness for testosterone production but it does increase libido.

And if hairloss runs in your family, you'll appreciate Saw Palmette as it can inhibit DHT production, the testosterone hormone that increases baldness.

Overall, PCT V is a decent choice for beginners to take as a general libido and strength enhancer.

Blackstone Labs is known for their hardcore supplements.

From their prohormones to their pre workouts, they don't shy away from hard hitting formula's.

Howeveer they've gone simple with Anogenin.

Anogenin only has one ingredient, and that's Laxogenin.

It contains 60 servings of 25mg laxogenin.

While that's not a high dose, it makes it vertisle to stack and dose.

Directions say to take up to 2 servings per day.

You can stack it with prohormones or SARMs as it only contains the strength enhancing plant steroid, laxogenin.

Recommended Supplement Stacks

Taking any kind of anabolic compound, whether natural or not, is useless if your diet and exercise (and maybe supplementation) isn’t in check.

Supplementation is non-essential, but using something as simple and cheap as creatine will make a massive difference.

If you need a muscle building program, click here.

If you need help with diet and nutrition, click here.

Now for supplements, we highly recommend these staples:

Supplements are not the priority, though they may seem like they should be, they are like the extension to your diet.

If your diet is not up to par, you’ll be wasting money and time on supplementation.

Natural Anabolic Compound Stack

The best supplements are usually formulated with a balanced profile of ingredients to maximize its effects.

And Laxogenin is best used when combined with other anabolic ingredients.

From Vaso6 for pumps and nutrient delivery to Epicatechin for recovery and further muscle growth, many of these compounds will work in synergy.

Check out these compounds which can either be bought individually or may already be in a Laxogenin supplement that you’ve looked at:

  • Vaso6
  • KSM-66
  • Epicatechin
  • ArA (Arachindonic Acid)
  • PA (Phosphatidic Acid)
  • HMB
  • Forskolin

Epicatechin, HMB and Forskolin are usually used for cutting (weight loss) but they can also support muscle gain.

Stacking Laxogenin With Prohormones And SARMs

If you take this route then you potentially will lose your status as a “natural” and may trigger positive on a doping test.

This prohormone guide will help you choose something strong.

Any of these SARMs / Prohormones can either be stacked with laxogenin and the other natural anabolics mentioned above:

1-Testosterone by Hi-Tech Pharmaceuticals (1- Andro)
3-EPI-ANDRO by Steel Supplements
Metha Quad Extreme by Blackstone Labs
MK-2866 by Darkside Pharma (Ostarine)

Other Supplements With Laxogenin

Here are other laxogenin-containing supplements.

Can Laxogenin Replace Steroids?

Laxogenin might not, but this plant steroid has grown in popularity over the past few years.

It may have opened doors (and minds) for what could just be the beginning a possibly huge category of plant steroids.

We can appreciate more research and discovery on natural anabolics as steroids may not be the best option for those looking for longevity in their training and health.

A natural anabolic like Laxogenin makes it more appealing to try as there’s little chance of using too much with adverse effects.

Overuse of steroids has brought havoc among it’s reputation to be a safe way to make gains.

It might not be as strong as it’s hyped to be, but it should be a big takeaway that we need to do our own research on supplement companies and ensure that they test their materials for purity.

Use it with an experimental mindset.

The upside is that you can supplement with Laxogenin indefinitely with no negative effects on your health or gains after ending supplementation.

  1. Is there any evidence ie studies that have been done on laxogenin? I can’t find any real life studies on it! When your looking at doing a 8-12 week cycle your looking at double the price of ”quality product” then a cycle of say lgd4033. granted you’ll won’t need a pct but you will definitely see results from SARMs and not just a light wallet!

    • Yea it is a bit of hit or miss, especially considering how companies can use low quality sources and a lot of them actually contain much less laxogenin than promised.

There are some studies on brassinosteroids but not directly for laxogenin.

If one was to try it though I would recommend going for the patented higher quality version, Laxosterone.
