Bottom Line

When it comes to small pre workouts, there seems to be less options these days.

But Gulag is one of the few that is a high stim pre workout with smaller sized servings.

It helps elevate mood and energy without being overwhelming.

Gulag is a DMHA high stim pre workout made with just at or under 300mg of caffeine.

Gulag is a pre workout that has surprised us with it's label.

The nutrition label is something you would expect to see years ago.

The trend seems to be more about open and fully disclosed labels with proper dosages, but Gulag has decided to take a step backwards.

At the end of the day, if it can deliver on energy, then it's a pre workout that is worth trying.

Gulag is coming from a fairly new brand that we've never seen before, Just Vibes.

The label looks awfully familiar, reminding me of what Jack3d looked like back in the day.

And perhaps it's trying to be like the next Jack3d or Dark Energy.

My Experience with Gulag

Looking at Gulag's ingredient label, you wouldn't expect much.

And after all, how many pre workouts are actually good with prop blends?

Very few.

Excelsior, Jack3d, Hydrazine... there's just not that many.

Gulag is a little different.

While we did get a free bottle, if we saw this and didn't look at the reviews, we likely wouldn't have been interested in it.

But this is one that you don't want to miss out on.

I've taken this several times, on an empty stomach before eating any food.

About 30-45 minutes in, the energy and focus kick in at its fullest and it's very smooth.

Gulag doesn't overwhelm at all, instead, its effects are long-lasting and noticeable.

I'm used to taking very strong pre-workouts and this is actual ideal for me because I'm not jittery or anxious, I'm just in the zone and the mood uplift is just perfect.

After about 3 hours it starts to taper off, so there is energy long after the workout if you need it to get work done.

Although there is alpha yohimbine I didn't notice any negative side effects from it.

The flavor I had was the pineapple mango mimosa which tasted fine and not overwhelming.

Although everything is in a propertiary blend, it isn't one to be judged.

Gulag is a pre workout that is similar to what we would've seen years ago when Jack3d was around.

These blends are not as common to see in our recommendations of pre workouts, but after trying Gulag, it's safe to say this is a pre workout that is worth trying.

The dosages for most ingredients in here aren't really known but we'd still like to recommend it.

Citrulline Malate (6g)

Citrulline malate is a great ingredient for improving performance.

It's an amino acid that comes with plenty of benefits, from increasing nitric oxide production to boosting strength and endurance.

Citrulline along with agmatine is going to have a really good synergistic effect on the pump.

Beta Alanine (3.2g)

If you've felt the tingles before from a pre workout then you've likely had beta alanine in it.

Beta alanine gives off those harmless tingles, and you'll feel it if you haven't been taking beta alanine for a while.

The tingles subside as your body gets saturated with beta alanine, which usually takes a week or two of usage.

This ingredient is one of the most popular as a pre workout because it can improve performance and strength during workouts.

Beta alanine is a building block of carnosine, so taking it in a supplement can increase carnosine levels in muscles. [1]

When carnosine is increased, it can delay lactic acid in muscles. [1]

Carnosine is also made out of histidine, which an essential amino acid that can only be obtained from supplements and food.

Other benefits of beta alanine include increasing mental focus, delaying fatigue, increasing endurance and strength as well as reducing acidosis.

Agmatine Sulfate (1.5g)

Gulag isn't much of a nitric oxide supplement but it does things right by including citrulline.

With increasing arginine levels from citrulline, there needs to be an ingredient to reduce the rate of arginine being broken down.

And that's what agmatine is good at.

This ingredient reduce the rate that arginine levels decreases at. [2]

You'll be pumped for much longer and it can also increase nitric oxide synthase. [3]

On top of that, agmatine can boost mood by functioning as a neurotransmitte. [4]

You'll feel more motivated and pumped overall from this one ingredient, and it works even better when it's combined with other nitric oxide boosters like agmatine.

Vasogulag Stim Blend (692mg)

Here's a blend that we don't like seeing but it's here anyway.

We thought we wouldn't see a proprietary blend in Gulag, but it's still a pre workout we enjoyed.

Caffeine (250mg)

There isn't a introduction needed for this stimulant.

Caffeine is a methylxanthine alkaloid that's dosed at 250mg per scoop, while it isn't a lot, there's still DMHA, guarana seed extract, synephrine and yohimbine.

This grandfather of a stimulant can cross the blood brain barrier, hence why it's so effective.

Within the brain it can improve cognitive physical coordination, as well as mood and cognition as it can affect the function of neuron cells. [5]

Caffeine can also inhibit adenosine, the metabolic byproduct and nucleotide that builds up every waking moment.

This is what makes us feel tired.

Caffeine can not only inhibit this enzyme but it can increase neuro activity even if you are sleep deprived and stressed. [6]

Caffeine is amazing for it's nootropic properteries and it can increase reaction time, enhance attention span and increase alertness. [7, 8]

While there's 250mg per scoop, there's still a few other stimulants and we're not sure what the dosages are.

At one full scoop, there's definitely more than enough energy for me and I'm used to taking about 400 to 500mg of caffeine from pre workouts.

Guarana Seed Extract

While Guarana may not be an amazing stimulant on it's own, when paired with other stimulants it works well.

One study shows that it can improve memory and attention span. [9]

It even outperformed Panax ginseng in one study, which is quite impressive considering ginseng is generally considered to be much more popular. [9]

This one is a fancy way of labeling DMHA.

DMHA is considered to be the smoother and milder version of DMAA (see the differences here).

It can work similarly to DMAA in that it can increase dopamine and noradrenaline uptake to help enhance cognitive function and mood for a workout.

Since it's a proprietary blend, we're not sure what the dosage is, but we're used to seeing anywhere from 150 to 300mg per serving.

When it's paired with other stimulants like caffeine, it works very well and can significantly increase energy much more than if you were to take it without stimulants.

Synephrine HCL

Synephrine is probably a stimulant you've seen before and it's popular in fat burners

It can increase metabolic rate by starting the fight or flight response.

In fact, synephrine can burn around 183 calories per day. [10]

And it also can increase athletic performance, all without increasing heart rate or blood pressure. [11]

Rauwolscine HCL

Synephrine is probably a stimulant you've seen before and it's popular in fat burners.

It can increase metabolic rate by starting the fight or flight response.

In fact, synephrine can burn around 183 calories per day. [12]

And it also can increase athletic performance, all without increasing heart rate or blood pressure. [13]

Comparing Gulag With Other Pre-Workouts

We're putting three heavyweights under the microscope: Gulag, Flame V3, and Rage AF. Ready to see how they stack up?

Let's get into it.

Picture this: a pre-workout that supercharges your energy hones your focus and amplifies your pumps.

Sounds too good to be true, right?

That's precisely what Flame V3 and Gulag claim to bring to the table.

But here's the twist:

while Flame V3 has its fair share of fans, others feel it doesn't quite hit the bullseye.

Gulag, meanwhile, has a mixed bag of reviews. Some users can't get enough of it, while others are left feeling underwhelmed.

Now, let's talk about Rage AF.

This pre-workout is a force to be reckoned with, renowned for its powerful energy boost.

It's the go-to for those seeking to take their workouts up a notch.

But there's a caveat: some users find Rage AF's energy boost a little too overpowering, even leading to jitters.

Gulag, on the other hand, appears to offer a more measured energy boost, without the jitters.

When we look at the ingredients, Gulag, Flame V3, and Rage AF have a lot in common.

They all feature pre-workout mainstays like L-Citrulline, Beta-Alanine, and Caffeine.

But Gulag sets itself apart with its proprietary blend. Yes, it's caused a bit of a stir, but it also adds an element of intrigue to the product.

So, how do you choose your pre-workout champion?

Gulag, Flame V3, or Rage AF?

The answer hinges on your personal preferences and workout objectives.

And remember, there's no one-size-fits-all solution.

Don't be afraid to try different products and find the pre-workout that's the perfect fit for you.

What is the recommended dosage for Gulag Pre-Workout?

The recommended dosage for Gulag Pre-Workout is one scoop mixed with 8-12 ounces of water, taken 15-30 minutes before your workout. However, if you're new to pre-workouts or sensitive to caffeine, it's advisable to start with half a scoop to assess your tolerance.

Is Gulag Pre-Workout safe?

As with any supplement, safety largely depends on how you use it. If used as directed, Gulag Pre-Workout is generally safe. However, it's always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen, especially if you have underlying health conditions or are taking other medications.

Can I use Gulag Pre-Workout every day?

While it's safe to use Gulag Pre-Workout on the days you work out, it's not recommended to use it every day. Your body can build up a tolerance to the ingredients, which can reduce their effectiveness over time. It's a good idea to cycle your pre-workout or take a break every few weeks.

Does Gulag Pre-Workout cause any side effects?

Some users have reported experiencing tingling sensations, which is a common side effect of Beta-Alanine, one of the ingredients in Gulag. Other potential side effects, although less common, can include jitters, increased heart rate, and upset stomach. These are typically associated with high caffeine content.

Where can I buy Gulag Pre-Workout?

Gulag Pre-Workout can be purchased from various online retailers, including the official Just Vibes Nutrition website and other supplement stores.

How does Gulag Pre-Workout taste?

Taste can be subjective, but most users report that Gulag Pre-Workout has a pleasant taste. It mixes well with water and doesn't leave a chalky residue.

Who should use Gulag Pre-Workout?

Gulag Pre-Workout is suitable for anyone looking to enhance their workout performance. Whether you're a seasoned athlete or a fitness newbie, Gulag can provide the energy, focus, and pumps you need to push through your workouts.

What makes Gulag Pre-Workout different from other pre-workouts?

What sets Gulag apart from many other pre-workouts is its proprietary blend. While this has sparked some controversy due to the lack of transparency, it also adds an element of uniqueness to the product. Additionally, Gulag is known for its balanced energy boost, which many users prefer over the intense, sometimes jittery energy provided by other pre-workouts.

Can I use Gulag Pre-Workout if I'm sensitive to caffeine?

If you're sensitive to caffeine, it's advisable to start with a lower dose of Gulag Pre-Workout to assess your tolerance. You can then gradually increase the dose as needed. However, if you experience any adverse effects, it's best to discontinue use and consult with a healthcare professional.

Is Gulag Pre-Workout Suitable for vegans?

Yes, Gulag Pre-Workout is suitable for vegans. It does not contain any animal-derived ingredients. However, if you have specific dietary requirements or allergies, it's always a good idea to check the ingredient list before using any new supplement.

Gulag: Attempting to be like Jack3d

Gulag is a middle ground type of pre workout with great energy but nothing extraordinary.

It'll leave you in a good mood, you'll want to workout, but it won't be the same as the original Jack3d nor would it make our strongest pre workouts rankings.

Gulag is a smooth pre workout that'll help with mood and focus.
