Bottom Line

Update: We've found the best alternative for Dark Energy. Check below...

Check out our DMAA list for hardcore pre-workouts.

For energy and euphoria, I think Flame is the better choice.

It has nearly the same ingredients.

Take a look at our strongest pre-workout list

Dark Energy is a strong pre-workout with both DMHA and DMAA.

While this contains some of the strongest exotic stimulants, it's a smooth pre-workout, most likely due to the GABA content in it.

Check out the pre-workout list below for the best Dark Energy alternatives.

The pre-workouts above are the best alternatives to Dark Energy.

So what exactly happened to Dark Energy?

Around March 2021, the supply of Dark Energy was seized and it was no longer being produced.

While there is no official news about this, the FDA was likely the reason why Dark Energy is no more.

There were also other pre-workouts being made in the same facility like Krak'n, Static Labz, and others.

But luckily for you, DMAA, and the strongest pre-workouts are still available today.

Check out these lists:

And don't forget, you can also buy DMAA in bulk, making it easy to turn a regular pre-workout into a strong one.

The text below is going back to what Dark Energy was about...

Dark Energy is a pre workout with both hardcore stimulants (DMHA and DMAA).

And it isn't dosed lightly either.

It takes 200mg DMHA and 60mg DMAA  for a potent pre workout.

You would think it would cause anxiety and jitters but the GABA content counters this and makes it a smooth pre workout.

If that isn't impressive enough, it also has 6g citrulline, 3.2g beta-alanine and 2g taurine.

Pumps, energy, and focus, does it get any better than that?

Before you risk your health (and wallet) on a company you've probably never heard of, you might have one question.

Who is the company exactly?

That's a good question.

The company is Magnitude Life Sciences and they are a fairly new company, registered at the very end of 2016.

They are a 3-year-old company that is producing massive waves with their Dark Energy pre-workout.

The FDA has banned the sale of DMAA so it might be hard to find information on this company to keep themselves protected.

After seeing it strive for a year on the market, there are thankfully no reports of this pre workout causing harm.

This pre workout is running out quickly and the company is still new so this will surely be a hard find for a few months.

You'll soon find out why this pre workout has hit our top 10 list for strongest pre workouts...

What's the best replacement for Dark Energy?

Here's a list of alternatives.

My Dark Energy Review

I've tried Dark Energy quite a few times and most of the time I took it on a empty stomach, after a fasted night of sleep without breakfast.

I took a full scoop of Tropical Research and about 20 minutes later I felt the onset of energy come in waves, which was mixed with some smooth euphoria.

After about 30-40 minutes I felt like I hit the peak for energy, which was between 7-8 out of 10, and near perfect mood.

Between my sets I would find it easier to recover and breath, usually with DMAA pre workouts I would feel the vasoconstriction effects (remember Jack3d?).

Long after my workout, 2-3 hours I found my mood returning back to normal.

I wasn't as aggressive as I was when I used Assassin.

Double Impact would have the same effects as Assassin because it uses the same stimulants.

I imagine the upcoming Assassin will be similar in aggressive energy.

Dark Energy is really smooth and has some good mood elevation but it isn't made for someone who wants to take their workouts to the next level in intensity and motivation.

It's strange because this has both DMHA and DMAA. I can barely handle the limited edition of Crack by Dark Labs but the mood elevation was definitely better when I was using Flame by Dark Labs.

Dark Energy would be good as a nootropic, like a productivity booster, if you were socializing or maybe getting work done.

Perhaps it would be good as a gaming supplement.

Which again feels strange saying that about a pre workout with both DMHA and DMAA.

Dark Energy Ingredients

The ingredients in Dark Energy is made for one thing.

Smooth, potent energy.

And it doesn't end there.

It has mood enhancing effects, thanks to the GABA and DMAE in here.

Some reviews like the one from FitnessDealNews say that this reminds him Craze and that it makes him feel good for 2-3 hours.

I don't know if it's on that level, as far as I know, Excelsior and Hydrazine are both the official replacements for Craze for it's limitless focus and euphoria.

Since both the company and the pre workout is new, it's hard to find the ingredient label.

Even Magnitude Life Sciences doesn't have the label up on their site.

The weird thing is that they've put Not For Human Consumption on the page for Dark Energy.

While their other pre workouts like Mach 50 and Supersonic all have labels published.

Mach 50 seems to be a combination of eria jarensis, caffeine and a few other ingredients while Supersonic is purely standard stimulants with just caffeine and yohimbine.

Keeping that in mind, we've hunted down the ingredients on the company's social media page, check them out:

L-Citrulline (6g)

Citrulline is backed by multiple studies for its strength, endurance and blood flow enhancing properties.

It's an amino acid, like l-arginine but it's far superior.

Since it increases arginine levels effectively, it is a popular to have in pre workouts, even strong ones like Dark Energy.

Some pre workouts have this amino acid without malic acid, but it is thought to be absorbed better when it's bonded with malic acid, turning it into citrulline malate.

Malic acid has its own benefits ranging from endurance and it delays fatigue.

The citrulline dosed at 6g is equivalent to 12g citrulline malate, this is a big dose and get ready for massive pumps!

Beta-Alanine (3.2g)

Endurance is what beta alanine is known for as several studies has shown it to decrease fatigue in intense exercise.

Because it lets you have more intense workouts for a prolonged period of time, it'll let you increase performance, power output and some studies even shows improved body composition.

CarnoSyn is the premium form of beta alanine, a patented form containing only the highest quality of the amino acid.

In its raw form, it is still accepted and widely used.

We can't complain since Dark Energy  already contains a strong stimulant blend and similar DMAA pre workouts rarely have CarnoSyn.

Taurine (2g)

Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that's abundant in the brain, eyes, heart and muscle.

But that's not why it's here.

Taurine increases endurance, delays fatigue and lets you increase workload within your workout.

The big 2g dose is enough to increase performance and endurance, as well as muscle size through “wet pumps”!

DMAE (750mg)

DMAE is a forgotten choline source.

It's considered to be a nootropic, that pairs well with another choline source like Alpha GPC or CDP choline.

DMAE reduces the age pigment in the brain but there isn't enough research to prove if it really boosts acetylcholine production.

However instead of boosting acetylcholine production, it prevents the breakdown of acetylcholine and one study showed it can boost acetylcholine production.

Usually pre workouts contain 125mg to 350mg of DMAE but Dark Energy contains 3 times that amount!

If you feel super-focused during your workout, you'll know DMAE has something to do that.

Caffeine (400mg)

DMAA and DMHA wouldn't be as effective without the good old stimulant that's always in pre workouts, caffeine.

This grandfather of a stimulant has plenty of research proving caffeine's ability to increase alertness and energy, allowing you to put in more effort and power into your workouts while decreasing fatigue.

The energy comes in handy when you're dieting or need a pick me up to get you going for your workout.

300mg is accepted as the standard for dosing, but at 400mg you'll get a big kick in energy as it's a fairly big dose considering the 2 big stimulants coming up.

DMHA (200mg)

Every once in a while comes a stimulant that tries to take the throne.

In 2016, that stimulant was DMHA.

It promised to be the next best thing to DMAA and it had massive potential to be that because it's chemical structure has serious similarities to DMAA.

Since then, it's been accepted as “close-enough” alternative as it has 80% the effects of DMAA when it was dosed appropriately.

The energy isn't overpowering nor does it cause jitters or anxiety, in fact some prefer DMHA over it's smooth and long lasting energy that doesn't have the harsh crash that's known with DMAA.

And remember there are no studies so when Magnitude Life Science's states that it's “not for human consumption”, they are doing this to protect their company against any potential cases.

Since DMHA has been out, there hasn't been any reported adverse effects, and I think at appropriate doses, there wouldn't any risk for side effects.

At 100 to 150mg, it hits the sweet spot for energy and focus.

But in Dark Energy, it's dosed at 200mg.

And that 200mg dose is combined with 60mg DMAA!

DMAA (60mg)

This is what makes Dark Energy what it is…

DMAA has been accepted as the stimulant that will disappear from supplements as the FDA is doing whatever it takes to get this stimulant off the market.

Since the reformulation of what was once a wide selection of DMAA-enhanced pre workouts, it's either been hard to find pre workouts with this stimulants or the prices were sky rocket high!

But luckily, there are still a few companies that produce hardcore pre workouts.

Dark Energy from Magnitude Life Sciences is one of those companies.

DMAA is known as 1,3 Dimethylamylamine or geranium extract, and it was first introduced in 1944 as a nasal decongestant but in 1983 it was removed from the market.

In 2006, it came back in fat burners and pre workouts.

Since then, there have been a few cases of misuse and abuse which led to the question of it's safety.

DMAA has similarities to amphetamine, which made it easier to target and it's mood-enhancing effects made it a popular stimulant to include.

This stimulant increases similar adrenaline feelings, making you feel much more energized and productive.

But since it was used recreationally, in the military and as a party drug, it wasn't used responsibly.

With it's fat burning potential and physical performance enhancing effects, DMAA is the perfect stimulant to include in pre workouts.

You can find more DMAA pre workouts on this list or this list.

GABA (50mg)

Gaba, or gamma aminobutyric acid in it's long form, is generally used a relaxant but it has far more benefits.

This neurotransmitter can increase growth hormone when it's dosed at 3g.

At 50mg, it's great for enhancing the stimulant effects.

One of the oldest pre workouts to use this was White Flood and we rarely see this used in pre workouts.

It should have similar effects to theanine, in that it can increase the mind to muscle connection by creating waves of calmness.

There's also some research showing how GABA can encourage your body to use body fat for energy.

Flavors

Currently, there are two flavors of Dark Energy, grape and bombsicle.

But we wouldn't be surprised if they end up with 10 flavors because of the popularity of this pre workout.

You won't find this in stock for more than a week or two at a time.

The demand currently is higher than it's supply.

Strong But Smooth Pre Workout

The name of Dark Energy makes it appropriate enough.

Only brave and hardcore companies will make a pre workout that will turn heads in the very popular category pre workouts.

The next pre workout with DMAA will usually contain the same formula, but Magnitude Life Sciences went above and beyond.

By combining DMAA and DMHA, along with GABA and DMAE, there's currently no other pre workout that comes close to being a copy of this pre workout.

It's no wonder this fresh company are delaying shipments as the demand for this pre workout is sky high!
