Hooligan Pre-Workout Review: Over 600mg Caffeine?!

by Nader Qudimat
Updated July 13, 2023

If you know Apollon Nutrition, then you know they create hardcore supplements.

This is Hooligan Pre-Workout by Apollon Nutrition.

If you're searching for a supplement that can give you that much-needed energy boost before hitting the gym, you've probably come across Hooligan.

But is it worth the hype?

Let's find out.

Hooligan at a Glance

Hooligan Pre-Workout is a high-energy supplement designed to enhance your workout performance.

It's packed with ingredients that promote focus, drive, and nitric oxide support without relying on exotic stimulants.

Hooligan: My Review

In my experience, Hooligan pre-workout by Apollon Nutrition is a force to be reckoned with.

This stimulant-heavy supplement packs a punch with a staggering 600mg of caffeine.

As someone who's tried a plethora of pre-workouts, Hooligan stands out for its sheer intensity.

If you prefer my video review, check it out below:

The energy surge from Hooligan is almost immediate, kicking in within the first 10 minutes and reaching its peak around the 30-minute mark.

However, the effects become even more pronounced once I dive into my workout.

My recovery time between sets is slightly longer due to the elevated heart rate.

It's a bit of a challenge, but it's a testament to the hard work I'm putting in at the gym.

Interestingly, compared to other pre-workouts loaded with DMAA and caffeine, Hooligan makes it more challenging to catch my breath and recover between sets.

I attribute this to the vasoconstrictive effects of caffeine.

There's a brief dizziness between sets, but it's fleeting.

The focus enhancement with Hooligan is impressive.

Despite the absence of Huperzine, the combination of Alpha GPC and other stimulants creates a laser-like focus.

Distractions are a non-issue.

I don't have any urges to check my phone or engage in idle chatter.

The mood elevation is noticeable, although it's not a euphoric feeling.

It's more of a stimulated, ready-to-conquer-the-gym kind of mood.

The intensity of my heart rate makes me eager to power through my workout and return to normalcy.

Hooligan is incredibly potent. It's not a pre-workout for daily use. Regular use could lead to caffeine withdrawal due to its high caffeine content.

I imagine future versions of Hooligan possibly reducing the caffeine and other stimulants, perhaps incorporating DMHA.

I find other high-caffeine pre-workouts like Assassin V7 and Double Impact V2 easier to handle during workouts, likely because their energy boost comes from different pathways.

Hooligan has powered some of my best workouts.

It's a pre-workout that genuinely gets you in the zone.

It's not an aggressive energy but rather a focused urgency.

It's a feeling of wanting to power through each set, and getting through the workout while not wasting any time.

Hooligan is a potent stim-junkie pre-workout that doesn't rely on exotic stimulants.

It's a product I recommend for those seeking a focused, urgent drive to power through their workouts.

It's not about aggression but a focused determination to complete each set and finish the workout.

Detailed Ingredient Breakdown

One thing that makes Hooligan stand out is its comprehensive ingredient list. Let's break it down:

Citrulline (8g)

Citrulline is an amino acid that plays a crucial role in producing nitric oxide, a molecule that helps relax and widen blood vessels.

This can improve blood flow, which is beneficial during high-intensity workouts.

Research has shown that citrulline can enhance exercise performance and reduce muscle soreness, making it a popular ingredient in pre-workout supplements.

Beta-Alanine (3.2g)

Beta-Alanine is another amino acid that has been linked to improved athletic performance.

It increases muscle carnosine levels, which helps buffer acid during high-intensity exercise.

A study found that beta-alanine supplementation could significantly improve exercise performance and delay muscle fatigue.

Betaine Anhydrous (2.5g)

Betaine anhydrous is a compound found in beets and other vegetables.

It's been shown to improve muscle endurance and increase strength.

A study found that betaine supplementation improved muscle endurance in a squat exercise and increased the quality of repetitions.

Tyrosine (2g)

Tyrosine is an amino acid that the body uses to produce neurotransmitters, which are chemicals that transmit signals in the brain.

It's been suggested to help improve mental performance and reduce the effects of stress and fatigue.

Research indicates that tyrosine supplementation can help maintain mental performance during stressful situations, like intense workouts.

Agmatine Sulfate (1.5g)

Agmatine sulfate is a compound commonly used in pre-workout supplements to aid muscle pumps.

It influences nitric oxide synthesis, improving blood flow and nutrient delivery to muscles during workouts.

Studies suggest that agmatine sulfate can enhance muscle pumps, allowing for greater endurance and improved performance.

Lion's Mane (1g)

Lion's Mane is a mushroom known for its potential cognitive-enhancing effects.

It's been suggested to support brain health, improve focus, and boost cognitive function.

Research has shown that Lion's Mane can stimulate the growth of brain cells, potentially enhancing cognitive function.

Alpha GPC (600mg)

Alpha GPC is a compound that can increase the production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that plays a crucial role in muscle contractions.

Studies have shown that Alpha GPC supplementation can improve power output in athletes.

Grape Seed Extract (400mg)

Grape Seed Extract is rich in antioxidants and has been linked to a variety of health benefits, including improved blood flow.

This can be beneficial during workouts as it ensures your muscles get the necessary nutrients.

Research has shown that Grape Seed Extract can improve blood flow, making it a valuable addition to pre-workout supplements.

Himalayan Pink Salt (300mg)

Himalayan Pink Salt is included in pre-workout supplements for its trace minerals.

During intense workouts, your body loses minerals through sweat. Replenishing these minerals can help improve hydration and prevent cramps.

Rhodiola Rosea (300mg)

Rhodiola Rosea is a plant known for its adaptogenic properties, which can help your body adapt to physical stress.

It's been suggested to improve exercise performance and reduce mental fatigue.

Research has shown that Rhodiola Rosea can improve learning and memory function.

This adaptogenic plant helps your body adapt to physical stress, which is beneficial during intense workouts.

Caffeine Anhydrous (300mg)

Caffeine Anhydrous is a dehydrated form of caffeine and a common ingredient in pre-workout supplements.

It's known for its ability to increase alertness and improve concentration.

Studies have shown that caffeine can enhance exercise performance by increasing power output and reducing fatigue.

Theobromine (200mg)

Theobromine is a compound found in cocoa and tea.

It's similar to caffeine and can help improve mood and cognition.

Research suggests that theobromine can enhance cognitive performance and mood.

Bioperine (10mg)

Bioperine is a patented black pepper extract often added to supplements to enhance absorption.

It's been shown to increase the bioavailability of other ingredients, making them more effective.

Who is Hooligan For?

Hooligan is designed for those serious about their fitness goals and seeking a pre-workout supplement matching their intensity.

It's ideal for athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts who want to maximize their performance and endurance during workouts.

Hooligan is for you if you thrive on high-intensity training and need a supplement that can provide sustained energy, focus, and muscle pumps.

Who is Hooligan Not For?

Hooligan may not be suitable for those sensitive to stimulants, as it contains a high caffeine content.

It's also not recommended for those new to pre-workout supplements or with a low tolerance to caffeine.

If you have any underlying health conditions or are on medication, it's always best to consult a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.

Pros and Cons of Hooligan

Hooligan shines in its ability to provide sustained energy, focus, and endurance. It's packed with clinically dosed ingredients known to enhance performance and recovery.

However, its high caffeine content might be a drawback for some, especially those sensitive to stimulants. It's also on the higher end of the price spectrum than other pre-workouts.

Hooligan vs. Assassin v7

Both Hooligan and Assassin v7 are high-stimulant pre-workouts designed for serious athletes.

Hooligan is known for its high caffeine content and long-lasting energy, while Assassin v7 is praised for its mood elevation and smooth, strong energy.

Assassin v7 also contains DMHA, which is not present in Hooligan.

Both pre-workouts have unique strengths, and their choice would depend on individual preferences and tolerance levels.

Hooligan vs. Bulk Black

Bulk Black by Transparent Labs is another pre-workout supplement that has gained popularity for its clean, high-stim formula.

It's a strong contender in the pre-workout market, especially for those who prefer natural flavoring and sweeteners.

Bulk Black is a hard-hitting, clinically dosed pre-workout supplement with 100% formula transparency.

It's designed for those who crave a stronger kick before hitting the gym.

The pre-workout packs 300mg of caffeine, which stands out in the Transparent Labs lineup.

Despite the hard-hitting energy, there's no crash. It's like riding a high-speed train that slows smoothly as it approaches the station.

Bulk Black might leave you wanting more if you're all about the pump.

The pump effects are decent, not extraordinary, but they do the job. It increases blood flow and improves vasodilation.

However, the real star with Bulk Black isn't just its formula. It's a clean, natural sweetness and doesn't use artificial sweeteners.

The main difference between Hooligan and Bulk Black lies in their formulation and target audience.

While Hooligan is designed for hardcore stimulant lovers, Bulk Black is a cleaner but high-stim alternative.

It's an excellent choice for those who want an intense pre-workout but prefer natural flavoring and sweeteners.
