Hibernate was made for one purpose and one purpose only, and that's sleep.
Knowing how rest is important for muscle building and recovery, it's one of the categories that's growing in popularity among bodybuilders.
But often, people are not getting optimal sleep.
From the increased use of electronics like smartphones and computers, and things like stress can reduce sleep quality.
With a proper sleep aid, it can get you in the optimal state and into deep sleep fairly quickly.
Hibernate is packed with sleep aids that can induce relaxation, enhance sleep quality and even optimize HGH levels.
Sleep is important.
Without sleep, there is no recovery and no growth.
Outside the gym is where you'll make the most gains.
While you're working out, you're putting your body under stress, your muscles get damaged, and your entire central nervous system gets taxed.
With high quality sleep, you can reduce the risk of overtraining, improve recovery and, most of all, make the most out of your training.
That's why we have a ranking list for sleep supplements.
Here we have Hibernate by Huge Nutrition.
It uses quite a few herbs and ingredients to help increase sleep quality.
We've reviewed their Ecdysterone and Annihilate and are now jumping into their Sleep Aid.
Let's dive into my review then the label breakdown…
I tried Hibernate for a while and here are my thoughts…
First the flavor is great, not that it should decide whether or not you should try this, but drinking Hibernate is a little refreshing after a hard day of work.
Within the first minute or so of drinking Hibernate, I can already feel the relaxation kicking in.
No matter how much I've had on my mind, it seems to clear off after a few minutes of drinking this.
When I take melatonin on it's own, I feel drowsy and this drowsiness lingers into the next day sometimes.
And even though Hibernate has a full amount of melatonin, I don't feel it as much into the next day.
I only need to take half a serving of Hibernate to feel it's effects.
The sleep is fantastic, I don't usually wake up at night but I think someone who does have trouble staying asleep may benefit from Hibernate because of how deep my sleep was.
And it works really well.
Although I need a strong cup of coffee to fully wake up in the morning, I feel quite rested and I don't feel the need to snooze at all.
Personally I've never had issues with sleep until recent months, most likely due to the stress of the pandemic and in general.
I've taken about half a serving 45 minutes before within my normal bedtime.
And by the 45 minute mark, I would feel really relaxed and tired.
Honestly staying up beyond that time frame was probably impossible.
It helped me fall alseep faster and I would stay asleep throughout the night.
In the morning, I felt like I slept well and I didn't feel any grogginess.
Usually sleep aids with melatonin would make me feel groggy, and really most sleep aids wouldn't help with keeping a clear mind the next day.
However with Hibernate, the next day I didn't even realize I had it the night before until I thought of it.
This is by far the better sleep aid to get from the other ones I've tried.
Hibernate is a potent recovery sleep aid which uses 9+ grams of herbs, amino acids and natural sleep aid to help you get a full nights rest.
It has a full 3 gram dose of GABA, followed by a gram of kanna, tyrosine and more.
Let's dig into the label below…
The ingredients here are no doubt useful as sleep aids.Â
Starting with the first ingredient…
Gaba (1g)
GABA is a neurotransmitter that induces relaxation and has some sedative function. It's what was used in Dark Energy to help reduce the anxiety and jitters of the hardcore stimulants.Â
It has a depressive effect on the nervous system.Â
It'll increase relaxation, reduce beta waves (the opposite of sleep), and increase alpha waves.Â
Kanna (1g)
Kanna can ease and enhance calmness along with relaxation.Â
A full gram of this will surely take the edge off before you head to bed and will help improve mood at the same time.
Tyrosine (1g)
Tyrosine is a precursor to the major neurotransmitters, dopamine, epinephrine, and serotonin.
Taking this before bed will help set you up for the next day for better mood, focus and mental function.Â
Theanine (1g)
L-theanine is a amino acid that can increase calmness and relaxation.Â
It's an interesting ingredient because it can be used as both a sleep aid and a pre workout.
Theanine pairs well with caffeine as a pre workout as it provides a longer lasting source of energy and focus without causing drowsiness.Â
As a sleep aid, it can promote relaxation and recovery.
It can increase the GABA production in the brain as well as dopamine and serotonin.Â
Mucuna Pruriens(250mg)
Mucuna is the ingredient for supplements to use when they want to use L-Dopa.
It'll improve mood and reduce anxiety along with some testosterone boosting benefits.
Valerian (225mg)
Valerian is another natural herb used to decrease stress and improve mood.Â
While the dosage is a bit lower than what we would expect from this ingredient, it'll still work since it's combined with other herbs here.Â
5-HTP (150mg)
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that occurs naturally and it's a precursor to serotonin.Â
For regulating mood, sleep, appetite, digestion and more, serotonin is an important neurotransmitter to make sure you have enough of.Â
Weight gain, poor sleepy quality and poor mood is what low levels of serotonin would lead to.Â
By using 5-HTP, you can reduce appetite, improve mood, and increase sleep quality (study).Â
Passion Flower Extract (150mg)
Passion flower is generally used to decrease stress and anxiety, and in Hibernate, it's here to help with sleep.Â
The dose here is low, and should be a little higher (around 250mg at least).
Melatonin (3mg)
Melatonin is a hormone that the body produces naturally when it's dark.Â
During the day, the body doesn't produce this hormone and it's essential for the sleep cycle.Â
Using melatonin improves quality of sleep, decrease the time to sleep and reduces the risk of waking up in the middle of the night (reference).Â
Hibernate is designed for anyone who is serious about muscle building and recovery. Whether you're a professional bodybuilder, an athlete, or just someone who loves to hit the gym, Hibernate can help you get the quality sleep your body needs to repair and build muscle. It's also a great choice for anyone who struggles with sleep quality or has a hard time winding down at the end of the day.
Hibernate is not recommended for those under the age of 18, pregnant or nursing women, or anyone with a medical condition. It's also not for those who are sensitive to melatonin or any of the other ingredients in Hibernate. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen.
Hibernate works by leveraging a combination of natural herbs, amino acids, and neurotransmitters to promote relaxation, enhance sleep quality, and support muscle recovery. Here's a breakdown of how it works:
Promotes Relaxation: Ingredients like GABA, Kanna, and Theanine work together to induce a state of relaxation, helping you unwind and prepare for sleep.
Enhances Sleep Quality: Hibernate contains melatonin, a hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. It also includes ingredients like 5-HTP and Passion Flower Extract, which can help improve sleep quality.
Supports Muscle Recovery: Hibernate is packed with ingredients like Tyrosine and Mucuna Pruriens, which support muscle recovery and growth. By promoting deep, restful sleep, Hibernate allows your body to fully engage in the muscle repair and growth process.
One of the key ways Hibernate works is by promoting relaxation. This is crucial because relaxation is the first step towards achieving quality sleep. Here's how the ingredients contribute to this:
GABA: Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) is a naturally occurring amino acid that works as a neurotransmitter in your brain. Neurotransmitters function as chemical messengers. GABA is considered an inhibitory neurotransmitter because it blocks, or inhibits, certain brain signals and decreases activity in your nervous system. This helps to reduce feelings of anxiety, stress, and fear by decreasing neuronal excitability.
Kanna: Kanna is a herb that's known for its calming effects. It's been used for centuries in traditional medicine to relieve anxiety and improve mood. It works by interacting with the brain's dopamine and serotonin receptors, two neurotransmitters that play a key role in mood and relaxation.
Theanine: L-Theanine is an amino acid found in tea leaves. It's known for its ability to promote relaxation without causing drowsiness. It works by boosting levels of GABA and other calming brain chemicals. L-Theanine also reduces levels of chemicals in the brain that are linked to stress and anxiety.
Hibernate also works by enhancing sleep quality. Good quality sleep is not just about how many hours you sleep, but also about how deep your sleep is. Here's how the ingredients in Hibernate contribute to this:
Melatonin: Melatonin is a hormone that your body produces naturally. It's often called the "sleep hormone," as high levels can help you fall asleep. By including melatonin in its formula, Hibernate can help regulate your sleep-wake cycle, making it easier for you to fall asleep and stay asleep throughout the night.
5-HTP: 5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that your body naturally produces. Your body uses it to produce serotonin, a chemical messenger that sends signals between your nerve cells. Low serotonin levels are associated with depression, anxiety, sleep disorders, weight gain, and other health problems. Therefore, by increasing your serotonin levels, 5-HTP can improve your mood, reduce anxiety, promote better sleep, and even help with weight loss.
Passion Flower Extract: Passion Flower Extract is a type of flowering plant that has been used for centuries for its calming and sleep-inducing effects. It's believed to work by increasing levels of GABA in the brain, which can help to quiet the mind and promote better sleep.
Finally, Hibernate supports muscle recovery. This is crucial for anyone serious about muscle building, as your muscles need time to repair and grow after a workout. Here's how the ingredients in Hibernate contribute to muscle recovery:
Tyrosine: Tyrosine is an amino acid that's used by your body to produce dopamine and adrenaline, two neurotransmitters that are crucial for mental alertness and focus. By including tyrosine in its formula, Hibernate can help to ensure that you wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day.
Mucuna Pruriens: Mucuna Pruriens is a tropical legume native to Africa and tropical Asia. It's been used in traditional medicine for centuries, and it's known for its ability to boost dopamine levels. This can help to improve mood, reduce stress, and increase focus. Additionally, Mucuna Pruriens is rich in L-Dopa, a precursor to dopamine that's been shown to promote human growth hormone (HGH) production. HGH plays a key role in muscle growth and recovery.
By promoting relaxation, enhancing sleep quality, and supporting muscle recovery, Hibernate provides a comprehensive solution for anyone looking to optimize their fitness regimen.
