⚠️ Important context
DMAA (1,3 dimethylamylamine) is considered illegal in dietary supplements by the FDA. It is banned in Canada, Australia, and most of Europe, and prohibited by WADA in all competitive sports. Many products that claim DMAA on the label today may actually contain analogs, DMHA, or entirely different compounds. What the label says and what you actually feel are often two different things. This guide covers the current reality not just what labels claim.
If you are searching for DMAA pre workouts, you need to understand something first: the DMAA era is basically over.
Products like the original Jack3d, Crack with DMAA, Wild Fire, Crack Gold, and Dark Energy built the reputation of DMAA as the ultimate hardcore stimulant. They delivered explosive energy, tunnel vision focus, mood elevation, and appetite suppression that very few modern stimulants have been able to replicate.
Most of those products are gone now. Discontinued, reformulated, or the companies behind them shut down entirely.
What Users ACTUALLY Mean When Searching DMAA
Most users do not care about the technical chemical structure. They are chasing a very specific feeling. This is what the "DMAA experience" actually translates to in the gym:
🚀Euphoric Training
🎯Tunnel Vision Focus
🦍Aggressive Urgency
🕰️Old School Feel
And honestly, that feeling increasingly comes from DMHA, eria jarensis, alpha yohimbine, undisclosed stimulant blends.
This guide covers what actually still exists, what changed, and what replaced it.

What Replaced DMAA?
The hardcore pre workout market did not stop when DMAA started disappearing. It evolved. Here is what took its place and why some of these modern alternatives actually feel stronger than the DMAA products they replaced.
DMHA Heavy Formulas
DMHA (2 aminoisoheptane) became the default replacement for DMAA. It provides similar euphoria and aggressive energy at 100 to 300mg doses. Products like Crack OG, Maniaco, and Crack Barbarian use high dose DMHA as their primary exotic stimulant. The quality of DMHA varies dramatically between brands some feel almost identical to old DMAA products, others feel like nothing.
"Geranium Extract" Label Claims
Some companies list "geranium extract" on the label as a way to imply DMAA content without actually writing the name. This is a regulatory workaround. Whether the product actually contains DMAA, a DMAA analog, or just caffeine with a misleading label is impossible to know without lab testing. Mesomorph and Jack3d both use this approach now. Neither hits like the original formulas.
Special Sauce / Undisclosed Stimulant Products
This is where the market got weird. Products like Venom, Game On, and some others contain stimulants that nobody can clearly identify. The labels say one thing. The experience feels like something else entirely. These products often feel stronger than any DMAA or DMHA product on the market, despite having simpler labels.
Alpha Yohimbine Heavy Non-Exotic Formulas
Some products like Wrecked Enraged skip exotic stimulants entirely but use high purity alpha yohimbine (98% plus) combined with engineered caffeine delivery to create intensity that rival's exotic stims pre workouts. Not technically a DMAA replacement, but users looking for that aggressive training drive increasingly end up here.
Reformulated Classics
Several former DMAA products got reformulated with DMHA or other stimulants. Legit Pre went from DMAA to DMHA. Crack became a different product Crack OG. In some cases, the reformulated version is actually better for lifting less vasoconstriction, better blood flow, more productive sessions even if the "raw intensity" feeling is different.
Products That Still Claim DMAA
These products currently list DMAA (or geranium extract) on the label. Whether what is inside matches the label is a separate question. Listed by how they actually perform based on real testing, not label claims.

📺 Video Review
Kill Switch lists 115mg DMAA and 300mg caffeine. Many users including myself speculate there is something beyond the listed ingredients it feels smoother yet more potent than traditional DMAA pre workouts, with effects that linger long after the gym. Comparable to Excelsior and Craze in its prime.
Recent batches feel different from older ones though. More mental focus and endurance, less overwhelming chaos. Clean alertness instead of that cracked out feeling. Could be batch differences, tolerance, or formula changes. Still one of the strongest options that claims DMAA on the label.

Irate did not feel smooth at first. It felt heavy. Not panic, not chaos, but right on that edge where you are very aware something strong is happening. The first hour hits with an initial pressure phase your heart does not race out of control but you feel it pounding more than usual.
Then it settles. The pressure fades into control and the focus increases. Builds in waves smooth wakefulness first, then stronger focus, then that slightly speedy feeling. The DMAA and DMHA combination creates a unique intensity profile. Appetite suppression hits hard. Distractions disappear.
Compared to smoother options, Irate is heavier and more aggressive. It grips instead of gliding. It locks you into task mode. Not beginner friendly the early pressure phase can feel uncomfortable if you are not used to strong stimulants.

Germany made formula that has been around for a while. Lower DMAA dose (50mg) but combined with 120mg DMHA, synephrine, and yohimbine for a well rounded stim profile. The DMAA and DMHA hybrid approach gives it a classic feel that is becoming rare. Extreme, long lasting energy and focus with a thermogenic edge.
One of those products you want to grab before it disappears formulas like this are increasingly hard to find.

Mesomorph used to be one of the best pre workouts with DMAA. Then it was reformulated without it. Then reformulated again with "geranium extract" which is how companies imply DMAA without writing the name. Whether this is actually DMAA or a labeling trick is unclear. It does not hit like the original. Good pumps, decent energy, but more entry level nostalgia than a true DMAA powerhouse.
We reviewed this on video, the energy was good, but it was not the DMAA kind. More like high energy, high focus, and kind of aggressive with urgency. Not bad, just not what the name suggests.
Best for:Nostalgia, entry levelReality:May not be real DMAA
If you want the DMAA feeling without relying on a stimulant that is impossible to verify, unreliable across batches, and targeted by regulators, these are the products that get closest to that experience through different pathways. All of these are on the strongest pre workouts ranking as well.

Venom does not claim DMAA. It does not claim DMHA. It does not claim much of anything recognizable. But it consistently delivers one of the strongest, smoothest, most euphoric experiences in the entire pre workout market. Strong mood elevation, tunnel vision focus, locked in "bubble feel", and it works even on bad sleep.
This is the product most stim junkies end up reaching for over everything else including products that claim DMAA on the label. The smoothest "sticky label" experience available. If you are looking for what DMAA used to feel like, this is closer than most products that actually claim DMAA.

Crack OG is the modern DMHA replacement for the original Crack which is a separate product that had DMAA. Despite being a "downgrade" on paper, the quality of DMHA feels closer to old school DMAA than most modern products. The combination of caffeine, DMHA, eria jarensis, and alpha yohimbine delivers sustained, focused, intense energy that feels like the first time taking a stim junkie pre workout.
It builds in the first 10 minutes into a mental high euphoric, energetic, focused, right before that dirty edge but never crossing it. No crash like the original DMAA version had. Max serving can cause nausea for some though.

Dark Horse by E Tech is an intense formula designed for those looking to elevate their performance and mood. Users report an adrenaline like feeling that encourages motivation and drive.
It feels like a storm building the whole session. That about to explode energy never fully tips over, but keeps you ready and excited for the workout. It is mentally sharp and driven, but with the underlying tension that keeps you on edge rather than relaxed.
A brewing, adrenaline heavy experience that keeps you in pumped up without spilling into full blown overstimulation. Just note that the constant edge can feel mentally taxing.

Dark Energy
Extinct
By Magnitude Life Sciences. The most notorious underground formula of its era. Known for delivering extreme mood elevation and euphoric energy without any associated anxiety. The company completely shut down.
Modern equivalent: Venom
Excelsior
available
By Imperial Nutrition. Often compared to the legendary original Craze. Provided an unmatched euphoric focus that lasted 6 plus hours. Batch consistency and availability became increasingly unreliable after 2021
Modern equivalent: Kill Switch
Crack Gold
Discontinued
By Dark Labs. The most aggressively stacked formula they ever produced, featuring 100mg DMAA + 200mg DMHA + 500mg caffeine. A massive cult following but inevitably discontinued due to extreme potency.
Modern equivalent: Crack Barbarian
Wild Fire
Extinct
By SoCal Supplements. Highly sought after because it contained 100mg DMAA + 200mg DMHA but completely skipped yohimbine. The addition of theanine prevented crashes. The company disappeared entirely.
Modern equivalent: Maniaco
The Originals (Jack3d & Craze)
Reformulated
The benchmarks from 2010. Jack3d (USPLabs) started the DMAA trend with explosive energy and numerous FDA lawsuits. Craze (Driven Sports) set the bar for focus. The versions sold today share only the name.
Modern equivalent: None capture the exact original magic.
Understanding DMAA
🧪 What is DMAA?
↓
DMAA (1,3 dimethylamylamine) is a synthetic stimulant originally marketed as a nasal decongestant. It works by stimulating norepinephrine release — increasing heart rate, blood pressure, blood glucose, and alertness. The result is intense energy, sharp focus, mood elevation, and strong appetite suppression.
It gained popularity in pre workouts around 2010 through Jack3d and OxyElite Pro. Companies that still use it often label it as "geranium extract" to avoid regulatory attention, even though it is a synthetic compound.
❓ Why did DMAA disappear?
↓
The FDA issued warnings and considers DMAA illegal in dietary supplements. It is banned in Canada, Australia, most of Europe, and by WADA. Lawsuits against Jack3d (none won against USPLabs, the latest dismissed by a court judge) and pressure on retailers made it increasingly hard to sell openly.
Most companies either reformulated (replaced DMAA with DMHA), rebranded the ingredient as "geranium extract", or shut down entirely. The supply chain for pharmaceutical grade DMAA also became more restricted.
⚠️ Risks and side effects
↓
Blood pressure spike — significant rise, dangerous with pre existing heart conditions
Neurological effects — headaches, dizziness, nausea at high doses
Dependency risk — stimulant properties can create tolerance and withdrawal
Sleep disruption — effects can last 6 plus hours, insomnia if taken after noon
Crash — DMAA crashes can be significant, especially at higher doses
Adhere to recommended dosing. Consult a healthcare professional if you have cardiovascular issues. Never stack with other stimulants. Do not take daily.
🔄 Tolerance and cycling
↓
Do not use DMAA or DMHA daily. These are 1 to 2x per week maximum tools. The less you use them, the harder they hit.
Optimal: 1 to 2 times per week
Maximum: 3 to 4 times per week (tolerance builds fast at this rate)
Stim break: If you stop feeling effects, take 1 to 2 months off all stimulants
Tapering: Drop to 50 to 150mg caffeine per day during breaks, then reduce further
If you are not getting energy from high caffeine plus exotic stims, your receptors are fried. No pre workout will fix that — only time off will.
🏷️ Are modern "DMAA" labels trustworthy?
↓
Short answer: you cannot know without lab testing.
Products listing "DMAA" may actually contain DMAA, a DMAA analog, DMHA labeled as DMAA, or something entirely unidentified. Products listing "geranium extract" are almost certainly using the name as a regulatory workaround — whether the compound inside is actually derived from geranium or is synthetic DMAA is unclear.
The only reliable method is third party lab testing, which most underground brands do not provide. This is why experienced users rely on how the product actually feels rather than what the label says. If a product that claims 120mg DMAA feels mild, it probably is not 120mg DMAA. If a product that claims only DMHA feels like old school DMAA, there may be more going on.
This is the reality of the market in 2026. Labels are suggestions. Experience is the only reliable data.
Bottom Line
If you want true, verified DMAA, the market is extremely limited and hard to verify. Kill Switch, Irate, and Firestorm still claim it on the label. Whether what is inside matches is a separate question that only lab testing could answer. Mesomorph and Jack3d use "geranium extract" and feel mild by modern standards.
If you want the closest modern feeling to what DMAA used to deliver the euphoria, the tunnel vision, the "I cannot stop training" drive focus on strong DMHA and distinct formulas and compare real user experience, not label claims.
Venom is the best overall modern alternative for that feeling. Deliverance is the closest to old school DMHA/Zeus style. Crack OG became the DMHA replacement after Crack. Dark Horse delivers an intense fight or flight energy edge. Maniaco is the most balanced exotic option for regular rotation.
The DMAA era built something legendary. The compounds may be different now, but the experience is still available you just have to know where to look.
