Rested AF is a 11g prop blend containing sleep aid for rest and recovery enhancement.
It has your typical looking formula in a 11 gram blend that doesn't disclose any dosages.
There's no secret blend that can induce sleep better than the proven dosages for these ingredients, so it isn't like Steel Supplements knows something that other companies can potentially copy.
We recommend Hibernate over Rested as it's more effective with a completely open formula with nothing to hide.
Will help relax before sleep
Decent selection of ingredients but using prop blend.
Easy to find
Sleep is important.
Without sleep, there is no recovery, and no growth.
Outside the gym is where you'll make the most gains.
While you're working out, you're putting your body under stress, your muscles get damaged and your entire central nervous system gets taxed.
With high quality sleep, you can reduce the risk of overtraining, improve recovery and most of all, make the most out of your training.
That's why we have a ranking list for sleep supplements.
Here we have Rested AF by Steel Supplements.
It uses a few herbs and ingredients to help increase sleep quality.
Let's dive into the label…
Rested AF Ingredients
The first thing we noticed when we saw Rested AF was the formula.
All ingredients are in one big proprietary blend.
There are no secrets to dosages nor is there some magic synergy when several ingredients are combined at specific dosages.
When it comes to improving sleep quality, yes these are the proper ingredients to use for the most part.
Although arginine has terrible bioavailability, there are still some benefits to the other ingredients used.
We recommend going with Hibernate by Huge Nutrition, which uses a fully open formula with proper clinical doses.
Rested AF Review
I tried Rested AF for a little while before giving it a final review.
The flavor was okay but my main concern was if it actually worked.
So I took it, and about 30-45 minutes later I would go to bed.
The morning after I felt like I slept fairly well.
But the price point wasn't worth it as it's priced at $50 for a month's worth.
Rested AF used to contain phenibut, but thankfully they've reformulated it and it has GABA, but it's still in a massive prop blend.
I would still recommend going with Hibernate, which worked better for me personally.
If you're going to use a recovery supplement, Rested AF isn't worth it.
If this was priced at $10, I might recommend it.
But in comparison, there's just better options available.
I think this is a good chance to share my favorite sleep aid and my review of it since Rested AF isn't something I would recommend.
Hibernate by Huge Nutrition
This is by far the better sleep aid to get.
Hibernate is a potent recovery sleep aid which uses 9+ grams of herbs, amino acids and natural sleep aid to help you get a full nights rest.
It has a full 3 gram dose of GABA, followed by a gram of kanna, tyrosine and more.
Let's dig into the label below…
This formula is how Steel Rested AF should've have looked in structure, a fully open and disclosed label.
I've taken Hibernate for over a month now and can fully share my experience below…
Personally I've never had issues with sleep until recent months, most likely due to the stress of the pandemic and in general.
I've taken about half a serving 45 minutes before within my normal bedtime.
And by the 45 minute mark, I would feel really relaxed and tired.
Honestly staying up beyond that time frame was probably impossible.
It helped me fall alseep faster and I would stay asleep throughout the night.
In the morning, I felt like I slept well and I didn't feel any grogginess.
Usually sleep aids with melatonin would make me feel groggy, and really most sleep aids wouldn't help with keeping a clear mind the next day.
However with Hibernate, the next day I didn't even realize I had it the night before until I thought of it.
The ingredients here are no doubt useful as sleep aids.
Starting with the first ingredient…
GABA is a neurotransmitter that induces relaxation and has some sedative function. It's what was used in Dark Energy to help reduce the anxiety and jitters of the hardcore stimulants.
It has a depressive effect on the nervous system.
It'll increase relaxation, reduce beta waves (the opposite of sleep), and increase alpha waves.
Kanna can ease and enhance calmness along with relaxation.
A full gram of this will surely take the edge off before you head to bed and will help improve mood at the same time.
Tyrosine is a precursor to the major neurotransmitters, dopamine, epinephrine, and serotonin.
Taking this before bed will help set you up for the next day for better mood, focus and mental function.
L-theanine is a amino acid that can increase calmness and relaxation.
It's an interesting ingredient because it can be used as both a sleep aid and a pre workout.
Theanine pairs well with caffeine as a pre workout as it provides a longer lasting source of energy and focus without causing drowsiness.
As a sleep aid, it can promote relaxation and recovery.
It can increase the GABA production in the brain as well as dopamine and serotonin.
Mucuna is the ingredient for supplements to use when they want to use L-Dopa.
It'll improve mood and reduce anxiety along with some testosterone boosting benefits.
Valerian is another natural herb used to decrease stress and improve mood.
While the dosage is a bit lower than what we would expect from this ingredient, it'll still work since it's combined with other herbs here.
5-Hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) is an amino acid that occurs naturally and it's a precursor to serotonin.
For regulating mood, sleep, appetite, digestion and more, serotonin is an important neurotransmitter to make sure you have enough of.
Weight gain, poor sleepy quality and poor mood is what low levels of serotonin would lead to.
By using 5-HTP, you can reduce appetite, improve mood, and increase sleep quality (study).
Passion Flower Extract (150mg)
Passion flower is generally used to decrease stress and anxiety, and in Hibernate, it's here to help with sleep.
The dose here is low, and should be a little higher (around 250mg at least).
Melatonin is a hormone that the body produces naturally when it's dark.
During the day, the body doesn't produce this hormone and it's essential for the sleep cycle.
Using melatonin improves quality of sleep, decrease the time to sleep and reduces the risk of waking up in the middle of the night (reference).
