El Jefe…

If you see a pre workout with this name, then you’ll know it’s not your typical 300mg caffeine pre workout with citrulline.

In fact, this pre workout is one of the strongest we’ve seen come out so far and it doesn’t even have DMAA

What it does have is a mix of stimulants, from fast hitting stims to slower released ones.

And this isn’t just a stimulant focused pre workout.

It contains the latest nitric oxide boosters that’ll boost pumps for days on end, literally.

With 7g citrulline malate, 4g beta alanine, 2.5g betaine anhydrous, and even 1.5g Nitrosigine and 150mg ElevATP you'll be blown up with strength and size for days to come.

It's one of our recommended pre workouts with 400mg caffeine

What To Expect

El Jefe will bring massive pumps, impressive performance gains and mental focus levels above.

It has effective nitric oxide boosters and it doesn’t cut back by using cheap ingredients either.

It uses patented ingredients and every serving is packed with over 20 grams of performance enhancers.

Expect fat burning along with high energy, mood and strong focus for your workouts and more.

My Review on El Jefe

I have to say, before I share my experience, that El Jefe is quite good.

I recommend it, but I hope they can remove the prop blend and disclosed the dosages.

I've taken El Jefe a few times now.

This is definitely a pre workout that I recommend.

I've taken it mainly on a completely fasted state.

I would take El Jefe, perform my workout and I would walk out with big pumps and still lots of energy to spare.

At the moment, I'm doing the PHAT program and I've taken this for both the strength and hypertrophy workouts.

Although the strength days doesn't have much volume, I'm still quite pumped after the workouts.

Since I'm working out completely fasted, there's one thing I miss and that's some form of electrolytes.

I do eat a banana usually before my workout so that does help.

After 20 minutes drinking El Jefe, I would feel the energy kick in.

It wouldn't hit all at once like Excelsior, rather it's a build up.

At first, I think okay I can I feel the energy, but after about 10 more minutes, it starts to elevate.

My guess is because of the caffeine malate, which is a slower digesting form of caffeine.

The combination of themobromine, eria jarensis, DMHA, with even more stims like higenamine and alpha yohimbine makes for a very hard hitting but long lasting combination.

I've taken El Jefe for a few days straight, and I never felt used to the energy, so I can see myself using a few bottles and still take advantage of the energy.

The pumps seem endless, it lasts for hours and 2 hours after the gym, I still feel quite pumped.

This caught me by surprise because it doesn't have agmatine to prolong the pumps, which usually acts as a defender to N.O. levels.

My fat isn't low but my veins are much more visible when I perform shoulder exercises.

And breathing is a lot easier, I don't feel like my heart outpacing my usual working sets.

For example, when I use Assassin, I feel as if my breathing and heart pacing is much faster than I can keep up with.

I think this is due to the theobromine in combination of higenamine.

All in all, this is easily a pre workout that I would rate highly, something like 9 out of 10. I would take one off because of the prop blend, although I don't think it's underdosed at all.

I can see more seperatation and I'm just more full when I use El Jefe, check out the pump below, but keep in mind my fat levels are still sort of high:

My Review on El Jefe LTD

El Jefe LTD is very similar to the original but with additional stimulants.

It's like a stim-junkies edition, but without the jitters and anxiety.

It doesn't overdo it.

So I've taken this in the morning, first thing, without food and about an hour later I would go to the gym and start my workout.

The energy would kick in at it's peak right after an hour and this would stay at it's peak for a while.

It wasn't elevating to a point where I would feel jittery.

But it would keep me in full gear for at least a few hours at a time.

And the focus was really on point.

The combination of the strong stimulants and nitric oxide boosters really made this pre workout kick in hard and would provide pumps that lasted all day.

Ingredients

There's two versions of El Jefe.

The limited edition version has DMAE Bitartrate, Halostachine and S7.

(You can use discount code FITFREK5 for the limited edition version).

And the regular El Jefe has Choline Bitartrate, Nitrosigine, ElevATP.

The ingredients in both these versions are super effective, from pump enhancing (for days!) to long lasting stimulants and more.

The only downside is the prop blend for the stimulants, but isn’t too bad as every scoop is packed with over 20 grams of active ingredients.

Based on my experience and what I would guess the dosages are for the prop blend are:

  • 1.5g Choline Bitratate
  • 300mg Caffeine
  • 200mg Theobromine
  • 250mg Eria Jarensis
  • 140mg Juglans Regia (DMHA)
  • 100mg Di-Caffeine Malate
  • 75mg Hordenine
  • 75mg Higenamine
  • 1.6mg Alpha Yohimbine
  • 0.20mg Huperzine

The folks over at Fitness Informant came up with these estimates and I think they are right.

Although the stims like DMHA and Eria Jarensis could be a little bit less or more.

What exactly do these ingredients do and how do they synergize with one another?

Let's find out…

Citrulline (7g)

Studies prove it is one of the best supplement ingredients to include in a pre workout.

It's a powerhouse amino acid for muscular endurance and nitric oxide enhancement.

How does it work exactly?

Citrulline converts into l-arginine, then an enzyme called nitric oxide synthase converts it into nitric oxide.

Nitric oxide expands blood vessels, causes for more vasodilation.

The benefit of having more vasodilation is that it allows for more nutrients to be shuttled into working muscles.

Metabolic waste gets cleared out quicker like lactic acid [1].

And like beta alanine, which is included, it reduces fatigue, allowing you to squeeze out more reps with your usual working weight before feeling exhausted.

Beta Alanine (4g)

If you see caffeine and citrulline in a pre workout then you know you're looking at a potentially good formula.

Since these ingredients are being more and more common in pre workouts, the only thing that would make it worthy is the dosage it uses.

El Jefe does it big with 7g citrulline and 300mg caffeine.

And now the mega dose – 4g beta alanine.

Beta alanine is a naturally occurring amino acid that is involved with carnosine production, a dipeptide molecule found in skeletal muscle. [2

By producing carnosine, lactic acid build up is reduced in working muscles and thus, increasing muscular endurance.

This is one of the reasons why exhaustion occurs, due to lactic acid accumulation.

With 4g though, you'll likely experience paresthesia, a tingling sensation that you'll feel throughout the skin and face, which is harmless.

Once your body saturates with beta alanine, you'll experience less of this sensation.

Betaine Anhydrous (2.5g)

When it comes to strength and size, creatine is undoubtedly crowned to be one of the best ingredients to have.

However, there's another ingredient that works well with something like creatine and that's betaine anhydrous.

Betaine anhydrous is an osmolyte and a methyl donor that can regulate cellular hydration and maintain fluid levels in cells. [3]

It's benefits come from being able to donate a methyl group to homocysteine.

When this non-proteinogenic amino acid can be problematic when levels of it are elevated and this can have a negative impact on muscle protein synthesis and other physiological functions. [4, 5]

The dosing here is perfect as 1.25g to 2.5g is a widely accepted dose.

The studies where betaine is used they typically use the same dose of 2.5g. [6

Taurine (2g)

Although taurine is found in high concentrations in the brain, muscles and organs, it is beneficial to supplement because it depletes with exercise.

It plays an important role for the nervous system and it helps with muscular endurance as seen in this study by the journal Sports Medicine. [7]

Researchers have found that taurine can regulate calcium levels in bones and cardiac muscle because of its involvement in calcium signaling, bile salt formation and osmoregulation.

Muscle contractions require calcium.

Taurine is essential if you're exercising with high intensity and will ensure you're making the most out of your muscle contractions.

Nitrosigine (1.5g)

One of the biggest game changers in the nitric oxide category is Nitrosigine.

This patented ingredient from Nutrition21 is much more effective than the other pump ingredients used in pre workouts.

It's made of 3 ingredients, airginine, silicate, and inositol, together it's known as inositol-stabilized arginine silicate.

Arginine on its own is ineffective because of its poor bioavailability and absorption.

However by binding arginine to silicate and using inositol as a stabilizer, arginine is easily absorbed by the body.

Thus you're left with more blood flow, increase nutrient uptake and long lasting muscular pumps. [8

And don't forget there's also 7g citrulline at the top of this formula so the pumps are going to be huge and this will work in synergy with both taurine and Nitrosigine.

ElevATP (150mg)

Creatine, betaine anhydrous, beta alanine have all been the go to muscle builders.

But the next gen of muscle builders show promise and ElevATP is one of them.

ElevATP has a wide range of benefits that can help improve performance in the gym.

This strength enhancing ingredient is a patented blend of ancient peat and an apple extract made by FutureCeuticals.

This highly bioavailable ingredient can boost strength, power and increase lean body mass.

Clinical studies have found 1 rep maximum deadlift and squat to have higher [9] in the group using elevATP compared to the placebo group.

Vertical jump peak velocity and peak power increased by a significant amount when compared to the placebo group.

But they found no increase on the bench press for 1 rep max. [10

The researchers concluded that the proprietary blend of ancient peat and apple extracts can increase lower body and total strength.

Choline Bitartrate

Choline bitartrate is our least preferred form because of it's lower bioavailability compared to the premium forms like Alpha GPC.

But some sacrifice is expected as El Jefe already has a ton of premium ingredients.

Choline can increase production of acetylcholine which leads to enhanced memory and cognition.

This can strengthen the mind to muscle connection, making you feel more tunnel focused on each rep while contracting your muscles.

While this is a cheaper form of choline, the other premium ingredients in here makes up for it.

There is still huperzine coming up below, which works really well with choline bitartrate.

Choline is required to make acetylcholine, and while that increases it, huperzine will protect it from being broken down.

It's the perfect combination to help establish the ultimate mind to muscle connection.

Caffeine Anhydrous (300mg)

Caffeine is the granddaddy of all stimulants.

This ingredient is common in pre workouts but the dosages and stimulants that come with it can make the pre workout feel different.

While there's a big 300mg dose of it here, there's still 75mg of Di-Caffeine malate.

Di-caffeine malate releases slower, ensuring you don't have a crash after a few hours of taking El Jefe.

And there's also the other stimulants in here, Alpha Yohimbine, higenamine, hordenine, and not to mention the DMHA which is dosed at 140mg, along with the massive 250mg serving of eria jarensis.

The energy blend is a hard hitting one here and although it hits hard, it lasts long.

The 300mg pure caffeine will be a massive boost for energy on it's own.

Theobromine

Theobromine is closely related with caffeine, but it isn't exactly the same.

It works similarly, in that it can block adenosine receptors, and it comes from cocoa beans which classifies as methylaxanthine.

Compared to caffeine, theobromine takes more time to be metabolized by the body, meaning you'll have a source of energy that lasts longer than caffeine. [11]

The benefits are good from being anti-tumoral , cardioprotective and energy enhancement with appetite suppression [12, 13]

Eria Jarensis

DMAA has had it downturn with the FDA, although it's back in pre workouts like never before, it can happen again.

Thanks to stimulants like Eria Jarensis, we can amazing euphoria and energy without risking the “ban hammer”.

It isn’t going to replace caffeine but when it’s combined with other stimulants, it’ll hit harder than any “standard” stimulant blend.

Eria Jarensis is considered to be a exotic stimulant that delivers intense energy with euphoric vibes.

It’s standardized to the constituent n-phenethyl dimethylamine (n-methyl-pea) and functions as a potent neuromodulator.

When dosages reach 200mg, it is considered to be very strong.

Although there’s not enough research, we know it works by binding to the receptors of the brain, acts as a neurotransmitter and increases dopamine production by the activated receptors.

Stimulants like DMHA or DMAA are typically combined with Eria Jarensis to create a potent pre workout blend like El Jefe.

We have DMHA coming up next…

Juglans Regia Extract

When DMAA was on the verge of being banned, pre workouts were back to being just a little more than average.

Potent stimulants are typically targeted to be banned by the FDA and here we have something that is considered to be the cousin of DMAA.

While it isn’t as hard hitting, it is strong enough to be a worthy alternative. [14]

DMHA, or Juglans Regia extract from a class of stims called aliphatic amines.

These stimulants are known for strong mental focus simulation as well as euphoria release as catecholamines are released.

The dosage here is unknown.

Di-Caffeine Malate (100mg, 75mg)

Caffeine malate is a form of caffeine that is bonded with malic acid.

The content of caffeine is usually around 70%, and the rest is made out of malic acid.

Regular pure caffeine gives fast and hard hitting caffeine. While this is good to have, you’ll eventually come down to a crash.

What hits hard will leave you feeling drained, potentially.

This is what caffeine malate solves.

The malic acid content takes longer to digest and not only does your stomach have to break the bound but it is also buffered from digesting it because of the malic acid.

And with pure caffeine already being in this formula, you’ll have energy coming from different sources at varying rates.

There’s no point in having a potent pre workout that gives you all the energy for an hour then having you feeling like you hit a wall the next.

On top of prolonged energy, caffeine malate also helps avoid the negative effects that come with high stim blends like increased blood pressure, heart rate and anxiety.

In total, including caffeine malate, you’re getting 375mg total caffeine content with every serving of El Jefe.

Hordenine HCl

With caffeine malate’s prolonged energy, you’d think it couldn’t get better.

Stimulants can last longer with this one ingredient and that’s hordenine.

It’s derived from bitter orange and it contains adrenergic amines, tyramine and synephrine.

It’s a beta 2 adrenergic agonist, meaning it will increase the production of adrenaline and noradrenaline.

Since it can increase heart rate and breathing rate [15], it will contribute to fat loss as this can increase metabolic output.

The interesting part of this is that hordenine works as a noradrenaline reuptake modulator, which can prolong the effects of stimulants.

This means every other stimulant in El Jefe will last longer, you’ll be less likely to have a crash and you'll truly feel like a Jefe for hours.

Hordenine HCl

This one is an underrated stimulant that works similarly to ephedrine.

Higenamine is considered to be a safe alternative ephedrine. While it’s banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency in sports [16], it’s still being used in supplements and for good reason too.

It works as a bronchodilator and a performance enhancer that can increase acetylcholine production.

Higenamine is a popular choice in fat burners because it stacks well with caffeine, yohimbine and l-carnitine.

And since it can increase acetylcholine production [17], choline sources and huperzine have good synergy with it, which both are in here.

Doses from 25mg to 75mg are accepted to be proper but we don’t know how much El Jefe has here.

Alpha Yohimbine

Huperzine is a cognition enhancer that can help establish a strong mind to muscle connection as it can prevent acetylcholine from being broken down.

It’s an antagonist to acetylcholinesterase [20] (ACE) , and it can protect neurons from oxidative damage.

This works in synergy with choline sources, which we mentioned and is included in this formula.

Think of huperzine to be the protector of acetylcholine and the brain as it can also enhance neuro health.

Huperzine A

Alpha-yohimbine is yet another potent stimulant in here.

It’s similar to yohimbine in how it works, aka rauwolscine, as it can block alpha-2-adrenergic receptors.

This helps create the perfect fat burning storm for your body.

Research has shown that it can also suppress appetite and increase male fertility. [18

Like yohimbine, it can increase libido, energy, mood and suppress appetite, but without the negative effects of anxiety, headaches, nervousness and irritability. [19]

Bioperine Extract (10mg)

With a big formula like El Jefe’s, bioavailability of the ingredients can make or break it’s effectiveness.

And this is why Bioperine is included.

It contains 95% of bioactive constituent piperine [21] and the benefit of this ingredient is it can enhance absorption and the bioavailability of the many ingredients it’s taken with.

And because of its ability to increase thermogenesis, alter efflux mechanisms and enhance enzymes that’s involved in metabolism. [22]

It’ll make every ingredient in here more effective.

How To Take

El Jefe is a potent pre workout and it doesn’t play friendly with caffeine sensitive users.

It not only has DMHA but it also has Eria Jarensis, 375mg caffeine, and yohimbine.

It’s advised to use half a scoop or less to assess your tolerance.

While this does use a more user friendly version of yohimbine, alpha yohimbine, it still has other stimulants here that can increase heart rate and nervousness to those who aren’t used to taking this kind of a pre workout.

Flavors

Flavors shouldn't be the deciding factor when you're picking a pre workout.

But if it's tasty, sure, we'll take that as a bonus.

Luckily El Jefe is delicious according to people trying it out.

This pre workout comes in two flavors:

  • Sour gummy bears
  • Peach rings

If you don't like sour flavoring, you'd be best to go with peach rings as that's your only other choice.

The only complaint we'd have here is there's artificial flavors and coloring in here.

It's rare to find a pre workout without these things but we're just nitpicking here.

El Jefe Is the Ultimate DMHA-Powered Pre Workout

El Jefe isn't made for grunts or goons.

It's a well made pre workout for advanced users who have experience with high stim pre workouts.

If you can handle 375mg caffeine, with DMHA, eria jarensis and yohimbine on top, then this pre workout might be the next best choice for you.

It doesn't get better than this, and if it does, then you should expect it to be more expensive as this is pushed to the limit.

And all bosses need to push it to the limit right?

For skin tearing pumps, arm vein popping size and top notch mental focus, El Jefe has it all.

Go give this pre workout a try and come back to let us know how it is because we're sure you'll be happy with it… or should we say, you'll become the El Jefe of the gym!

Use coupon code FITFREK for 15% off.

Are You Ready To Become a El Jefe?

DMHA and eria jarensis are typically the perfect combo of stims to include in a hardcore pre workout but El Jefe goes beyond that and includes top notch patented ingredients for crazy pumps, long lasting focus and great energy.
